The following list is a "living" list of items that will be come part of a "growing" policy that governs how recyclable items are handled here at the AAE.
Any item can be recycled at the AAE if it has a recycling symbol on it like this one:
Everything recyclable item put in a recycling containers on campus MUST be free of food contamination.
Large metal dumpsters are to be reserved for cardboard.
All cardboard boxes need to be broken down until flat.
News paper are classified as paper not cardboard and should be put in the blue barrels.
All blue plastic 55 gallon "topless" drums are for mixed paper recycling only.
Full drums are to be replaced with an empty one.
The day before a scheduled pick-up, call Majestic Recycling @ 760-951-8003
and let them know how many drums are full.
All recyclable containers that hold or held fluids (cups, cartons, water containers, cans) must be emptied if we are to receive $ for them.
It is helpful if all lidded plastic containers are open, recycling both the lid and container, before placing them into a recycling bin on campus.
Pill / medicine /prescription bottles must be empty.
Do not flush unused or unwanted medicines down the toilet (essentially adding it to the desert's water supply), instead take these to a "household hazardous waste" (HHW) facility near you:
The Town of Apple Valley HHW facility is
open to the public for free drop off of household hazardous waste every
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The facility is located at 13450
Nomwaket Road, south of Powhatan.
Recycling containers, bins, dumpster, barrels are not to be used for trash or placed near trash cans.
If recyclable items collected at home are not pre-sorted and bagged kind (CRV container, mixed paper, cardboard etc.), mixed unsorted recyclable items can be dropped off at an AAE campus IF they are all contained in a tied off bag. This bag can then be put in a dumpster.
