Global Programs

Mission Statement

The mission of Global Programs is to provide and sustain access to LCER programs focused on applied sciences, locally, nationally and globally.

Information

The Lewis Center operates programs that reach students across the United States and around the world.

In our Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT) project, our partnerships with NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory allow us to control and operate three radio telescopes at the Deep Space Network at Goldstone. Through our Mission Control Center in Apple Valley, teachers nationwide and students as young as kindergarten operate a million-pound, nine-story-high radio telescope from the classroom and gather data for NASA scientists on real scientific projects. GAVRT gives students the opportunity to experience discovery for themselves, in their classrooms, personally interacting with other students, scientists and educators by phone and Internet.

Our K16 Bridge program provides over 100,000 students in California and Texas with the tools to take charge of their education and prepare them for careers and high education. Almost 300,000 students have traveled with their classmates and teachers on field trips to our campus on the Mojave River.

Our Global Science Commons offers resources and data for scientific teaching and learning.
