After being an active volunteer of the center since 1994, Kay was hired as the Volunteer Coordinator at the Lewis Center for Educational Research in 1997. She coordinated the volunteer-run outreach programs and taught enrichment classes at the AAE. Since October 2000, she supervises the Local Outreach Department. She continues to teach enrichment classes at the AAE.
Her responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing the current outreach programs, supervising the Volunteer Coordinator, and developing new programs. Designing new innovative hands-on programs is rewarding and allows Kay to be creative, which is something she loves to do! Seeing the 'spark' in a child from doing hands-on activities with volunteers is wonderful! When not working, Kay enjoys family, rubber-stamping, and eBay!
Laura has been a professional volunteer by choice for many years. Laura feels lucky enough to have found the 'perfect job' here at the Lewis Center in March 2004. She coordinates and maintains all field trip programs for the Local Outreach, recruits and trains new volunteers, and also teaches the student-facilitated "Solar System" & "Tornadoes, Rainbows, & Wind" field trip workshops.
As a wife and mother of three girls, Laura has kept busy by becoming a volunteer as a Girl Scout leader and team member in Apple Valley, parent volunteer at her children's elementary and middle schools, and as the nursery coordinator at her church. When not busy with her volunteer work, Laura enjoys attending bible study and playing in her church's bell choir. She also enjoys traveling with her family to our country's national parks in their 5th wheel trailer.
