GAVRTSchool Profile:

Notre Dame Academy visits

Mission Control @ LCER

Notre Dame Academy is a private Catholic college preparatory school for young women, established in 1949 by the Sisters of Notre Dame in West Los Angeles, California. It’s motto and tradition, “Educating Young Women to Make a Difference”, sets it apart from other schools. Nine students willingly gave up part of their spring vacation
in order to travel to Goldstone to visit the Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT), DSS-12, ‘their’ telescope. Next, they went to the Lewis Center for Educational Research (LCER) to operate the GAVRT telescope from inside Mission Control.
They were able to meet the operators, tour the campus, and track both quasars and Jupiter. During this past school year, these girls contributed to the Mars Radar mission, the Quasar Northern Spring Campaign, tracking quasars, and our Jupiter Quest program. They are an invaluable part of the GAVRT Team!
