Optical Astronomy

The Lewis Center provides education in astronomy with the Luz Observatory on our Thunderbird Campus. Through a partnership with the High Desert Astronomical Society (HiDAS), students and the community-at-large are able to view celestial bodies through our 14" Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain telescope.

The observatory is open to the public at least 3 nights a month. To check for the next viewing date visit HiDAS. A calendar is available for your convenience.

Private "Star Parties" are also available for groups. To schedule a group for a private Star Party, please email fieldtrips@lcer.org or contact Laura Unferdorfer at 760-946-5414 ext. 277.

To become a volunteer for this program, email Laura Unferdorfer or call 760-946-5414 ext. 277.
