Assessment Research

The California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is a new graduation requirement, which was authorized in 1999 by California state law, Senate Bill 2. Beginning with the graduating class of 2004, students attending California public schools must pass the CAHSEE in order to receive a high school diploma.

Each spring, California schools must participate in the Standardized Testing and Reporting Program (STAR). This STAR program includes the testing of all students in grades 2 - 11. In 2002, the students were tested in the nationally-normed Stanford Achievement Test (SAT9) as well as the California Standards Test (CST), which specifically targets the California standards. Many of our students prepare for taking the STAR test in a variety of ways and were surveyed in April, 2002.
