AEX

Aerospace Education Excellence Award Program (AEX)
Each year, the Lewis Center, in partnership with the Civil Air Patrol, offers a program for AAE students in grades 4 through 8. Students participate in this fun-filled, hands-on educational program that meets in the spring for six weeks. This program is provided to excite and motivate students in the science of aviation and awareness of aerospace careers.
Each 2-hour workshop focuses on a specific aspect of aerospace/aviation. Students get to "fly" in the T-40 flight simulator.  A "field day" is also included in the program, with students visiting the Victor Valley Radio Flyer Club Airfield in Hesperia. Upon completion of the program, students are presented with a certificate from the Lewis Center and the Civil Air Patrol. Each registered participant receives an AEX T-shirt.

Registration begins each year in October with the first workshop beginning in November. Any questions regarding this program can be directed to Amy Ritter at 760-946-5414 ext. 276.

To become a volunteer for this program, email Amy Ritter or call 760-946-5414 ext. 276.

T-40 Flight Simulator

The Lewis Center, Thunderbird Campus, is home to a T-40 flight simulator used for aviation instruction through the AAE as well as our outreach programs. Volunteers are trained and certified in the use of the simulator in order to instruct interested future pilots.
